In 1992 I was appointed to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and in 1993 ran for and was elected to a four year term on the City Commission serving as Mayor during 1996-97.

In my tenure on the City Commission and my term as Mayor, citizens came to me with their most pressing problems. I worked around the clock on these community issues and was able push for important changes such as: sewer problems on Pottawatomie Avenue; reconstruction of Allen Road; development of a new American Legion/High School Competition baseball field; and drainage problems on Little Kitten Creek. At the request and with the support of parents in the city we developed parks in neighborhoods such as Northview, Stagg Hill, Fairmont and Pottawatomie Street.
