I began my career in political problem solving in 1988 when the Board of County Commissioners announced that they would be expanding the County Jail within 28 feet of a daycare, two schools, a church, and a well established Manhattan neighborhood.

A group of parents began to work together and then Jail CORP (Citizens Organized for the Responsible Placement of the Jail) was born. This organization was instrumental in the election of three new County Commissioners over the next four years and the defeat of a ballot issue. After the County found a new location for the jail we proudly supported its passage. Twelve years later, in 2000, the county opened its new jail facility.
